Yale names Matthew Mendelsohn Chief Investment Officer

The Yale Investments Office announced that Matthew Mendelsohn will be the next Chief Investment Officer of the university’s $31 billion endowment. Mendelsohn joined the Yale Investments Office in 2007 and most recently served as a director with responsibility for the endowment’s venture capital assets. Mendelsohn succeeds his mentor, David Swensen, who passed away in May and who led Yale’s endowment for more than 35 years. David Barrett Partners advised Yale on the search.

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute names Donald Koch Vice President and CIO

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), the largest private biomedical research institution in the United States, has named Donald Koch Chief Investment Officer and Vice President. As CIO, he will oversee the Institute’s $21.2 billion endowment and will lead a team of 30 investment professionals. Koch has been with HHMI since 2009 and most recently served as Managing Director of Research and Portfolio Analytics, a position he has held since 2013. Hector Calderon named Geolo Capital’s CIO

Geolo Capital, the San Francisco-based private equity investment arm of the John Pritzker family office, has hired Hector Calderon to serve as Chief Investment Officer. Corey Amon has been named the next Chief Investment Officer for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), a national trade association representing nearly 900 local electric cooperatives, effective June 7. Alaska Permanent Fund Loses CIO to OCIO

Jay Willoughby, who joined as CIO at the Alaska fund four years ago, will take the CIO slot at the Investment Fund for Foundations (TIFF), a nonprofit outsourced CIO (OCIO) shop, in October.
